Mongolian deputies adopted, during their last parliamentary session of 2020, several draft laws applicable in 2021, in particular one relating to the modification of the Law on the Legal Status of Foreign Citizens.
As the official Mongolian news agency Montsame said in a statement, « the present amendments deal with newly regulated issues related to improving registration and monitoring of foreign nationals, issuing Mongolian visa online and at border crossing ports, operating visa center and extending visa expiration date » .
« The concept of issuing visas only in sticker format has been changed and new regulations have been introduced to issue visas in electronic and printed formats, in accordance with international standards and to improve the registration and control of foreigners » the statement said.
These amendments to the Law on the Legal Status of Foreign Citizens and the revision of the visa issuing system will come into force on June 1, 2021.
Like many countries which are revising their visa policy during the period of the Covid-19 health crisis and its B117 variant, like Vietnam or, more recently, Russia , the implementation or resumption of the issuance of electronic or paper visas, will depend on the global epidemic situation in the coming months… The launch of the visa on arrival and the e-Visa for Mongolia should be subject to the same health criteria.
As of March 10, 2020, and until further notice, Mongolia has suspended the issuance of visas to foreigners as well as all commercial flights, passenger rail transport and automobile traffic to and from the country.
